A collaboration rooted in land, history, and resistance.
🫒 As a Palestinian who grew up in Aotearoa, I’ve always understood what it means to fight for identity, to preserve culture, and to honour the land that raised us. That’s why we’re proud to now exclusively stock Swann Olives — a Māori, whānau-owned olive oil producer based in Rangitukia on the East Coast.
🫒 I had the honour of meeting Brent and Huia, the humble hearts behind this olive grove. Brent once worked on olive farms in Palestine back in the 1980s — and it was there, amongst our trees, that he found the inspiration to preserve the indigenous olive grove at home in Aotearoa and to start a whānau produced, olive oil business.
🫒 This isn’t just olive oil. It’s the fruit of connection between indigenous land, people, and history. This olive oil carries a story from Falastin to Aotearoa. From one rooted people to another.
🫒 We feel honoured to be able to provide indigenous olive oil from Aotearoa alongside our indigenous Palestinian pantry items like Zaatar.
Swann Olives is located in Rangitukia, a small Māori settlement on the East Coast. The olive grove is planted on whenua tīpuna, the land of our ancestors.
The vision to grow olive trees came from one of the owners, Brent Swann, who had experiences working on an olive grove in Palestine in the 1980s. He saw that olive oil was highly valued by the community, and its production and use was a cultural activity that involved the whole whānau.
This inspired him to preserve the indigenous olive grove at home in Aotearoa and to start a whānau produced, cold pressed extra virgin olive oil business.
The current stock is the 2024 Frantoio and Verdale blend which comes from organic trees grown in Rangitukia, East Coast.
It is rich with fruity, herbaceous and peppery notes. Great for all types of kai.
